No-bid defense contractor Halliburton Corp. will be taken over by the U.S. government for one day in order to receive a taxpayer bailout package, a spokesman for the U.S. Treasury Department said today. The move comes after accountants working for the company were instructed to temporarily write down the value of Halliburton’s assets in order to qualify for the bailout.
